Ahmedabad Tharad Expressway – Introduction :
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing a Six Lane Access Controlled Economic Corridor from Amritsar to Jamnagar under the Bharatmala Pariyojana (Phase-I). This economic corridor passes through several states with strong agricultural and industrial potential, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. To further connect this economic corridor to Ahmedabad and eventually to Mumbai, a Greenfield Expressway is being constructed between Tharad and Ahmedabad.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing a 213.803 km six to eight lane access-controlled Tharad-Ahmedabad Expressway in the state of Gujarat under the Bharatmala Pariyojana (BMP). The greenfield expressway will be developed on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) model and the feasibility report and detailed project report (DPR) were prepared by Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Private Limited (ICT).

Route and Length of Ahmedabad Tharad Expressway :
The proposed Greenfield Expressway starts at the Amritsar-Santhalpur Expressway in Tharad Taluka of Banaskantha District (Ch. 0+000) and ends at the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway (NE-1) at Daskroi Taluka of Ahmedabad District (Ch. 213+803) in the state of Gujarat. The total length of the expressway is 213.803 km, with a proposed right-of-way of 70 m in general. The expressway will pass through five districts in Gujarat: Banaskantha, Patan, Mahesana, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad.

River Crossings and Infrastructure
The expressway will cross several rivers, including the Banas River (Ch. 52+200), Chekaria River (Ch. 61+505), Khari River (Ch. 61+750), Saraswati River (Ch. 80+540), Pushpavati River (Ch. 104+382), Rupen River (Ch. 114+000), and Sabarmati River (Ch. 164+500). It will also cross streams and local Nalas at various locations. Adequate cross drainage structures will be provided to maintain natural water flow and drainage. The expressway will also include 23 major bridges, 53 minor bridges, and 538 culverts.

The expressway will have 11 interchanges to provide access controlled mobility to various economic centers along the route. Road safety features such as crash barriers, anti-glare devices, delineators, road studs, pedestrian guard rails, road signs, and road markings will also be included to enhance safety for road users.
