Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Project Route Information and Update

The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor: Revolutionizing Transportation in the Region

The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) is an ambitious project set to transform transportation in the Haryana region. Spanning 121.742 km, this proposed semi high-speed rail line will connect Harsana Kalan (Sonipat) and Asaoti (Palwal) in Haryana, with 17 stations along the Kundli – Manesar – Palwal (KMP) / Western Peripheral Expressway. With an estimated cost of Rs. 4,822.69 crore, the HORC aims to revolutionize transportation and provide seamless connectivity.

Enhancing Connectivity and Speed

The HORC will operate at a top speed of 160 kmph, ensuring efficient and speedy transportation for passengers. The passenger trains on this broad gauge line will connect through 14 new and 3 existing stations, including Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkoda. This rail corridor will not only benefit passengers but also cater to freight transportation by linking major logistic hubs and adhering to the Dedicated Freight Corridor standard.

Bypassing Delhi for Improved Connectivity

One of the significant advantages of the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor is its bypassing of Delhi, allowing for better connectivity with the Indian Railways’ main radial routes such as Delhi – Rohtak and Delhi – Ambala. Furthermore, it will connect with the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) at Pirthala, major logistic hubs, and the 106.5 km Delhi – SNB RRTS Line at Panchgaon. This strategic connectivity will greatly enhance the efficiency and convenience of transportation in the region.

Seamless Travel Experience

Operated by the Indian Railways, the HORC will ensure a seamless and comfortable travel experience for passengers. The rolling stock and related services will be designed to provide the highest level of convenience and comfort, making travel on the rail corridor a pleasurable experience.

Project Execution and Funding

The Haryana government granted in-principle approval for the HORC project in December 2018. The execution of this significant project will be overseen by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC). The project will be financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through a $400 million loan, showcasing the commitment to developing state-of-the-art transportation infrastructure.

To ensure the successful implementation of the project, the HORC appointed RITES – SMEC JV as its General Consultant in 2021. This appointment reflects the dedication to leveraging the expertise of industry leaders to achieve optimal results.
