The new expressway has been named ‘Shaktipeeth’ as it aims to connect various popular religious places in Maharashtra, such as Mahur, Tuljapur, Kolhapur, and Ambejogai, known for their goddess temples like Mahalaxmi, Tulja Bhavani, and Patradevi. The greenfield expressway will start from Pavnar in Wardha district, which is famous for Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s ashram. It will also connect significant religious sites including the jyotirlingas of Aundha Nagnath and Parli Vaijanath, the Gurudwara at Nanded, and the Vitthal Rukmini temple in Pandharpur. Additionally, it will provide access to religious places like Karanja Lad, Akkalkot, Gangapur, Narsobachi Wadi, and Audumbar, among others.

It will span across six districts of Marathwada, namely Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, and Dharashiv, thereby contributing to the economic growth of the region. In Vidarbha, the expressway will connect Wardha and Yavatmal, and in Western Maharashtra, it will pass through Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur districts.
