The contracts have been awarded to the giant companies in the construction industry. Before focusing much about the contractors, lets know the details of the Patna metro project details first
Patna Metro is a two-line, 24-station urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) being built by Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd in Patna, Bihar’s capital and largest city (PMRCL).

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 30.91-kilometer Patna Metro Phase 1 project was created by RITES and authorised by Bihar’s state government on February 9, 2016. The Bihar government approved the formation of Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (PMRCL) as the operator or special purpose vehicle for its execution on September 25, 2018, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was selected as the General Consultant (GC) to assist with it.
On February 6, 2019, the project was approved by the Central Government, and PM Modi lay the foundation stone on February 17, 2019. The DMRC announced a change to the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) and alignment of both lines in November 2019, resulting in the creation of a second interchange at Khemni Chowk, the elimination of Line-1’s Aitwarpur depot, and the addition of two new stations at Ramkrishna Nagar and Jaganpura.
The project will be partially funded by a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) official development assistance (ODA) loan (JICA).

Key features of Patna Metro Rail Project
The top speed of the metro will be around 80 kmPH and the average speed will be 34 kmPH. Metro will run on the standard gauge i.e. 1,435mm.
It is expected that by 2026 the Ridership will be close to 2.10 Lakh passengers per day.
The estimated cost of the Patna metro Project is INR 13,366 Crores.
Phase 1 of the Patna Metro will be 30.91 Kms Long which will consist of 2 Lines in which Line 1 will be 16.86 Km long and Line 2 will be 14.05 Kms Long.
Line 1 will be known as East West line (Danapur Cantonment – Khemni Chak) & Line 2 will be known as the North – South Line (Patna Junction Railway Station – New ISBT)
Both Line 1 & Line 2 will be constructed as elevated type with some sections as underground.
Line 1 will have 9.36 Kms of Elevated Section & on this, metro will stop at 8 stations. Remaining 7.5 Kms will be underground type which will have 6 stations. So in total Line 1 will have 14 stations.
The 14 Stations or Stoppages which falls under Line 1 of Patna Metro are Danapur Cantonment, Saguna More, RPS More, Patliputra (which is formerly known as IAS Colony), Rukanpura, Raja Bazaar, Patna Zoo (formerly known as JD Women’s College), Vikas Bhawan (formerly known as Raj Bhavan), Vidyut Bhawan, Patna Jn (interchange), Mithapur, Ramkrishna Nagar and Jaganpur & Khemni Chak (interchange)
Line no. 2 will have 6 Kms of Elevated Section & on this, metro train will stop at 5 stations. Remaining 8 Kms will be underground type metro which will have 7 stations. With this, Line 2 will have a total of 12 stations.
The 12 Metro Stations or Stoppages which will fall under Line 2 of the Patna Metro are Patna Jn (interchange), Akashvani (formerly Known as Dak Bungalow), Gandhi Maidaan, PMCH, Patna University, Moin-Ul-Haq Stadium, Rajendra Nagar, Malaahi Pakri, Khemni Chak (interchange), Bhoothnath, Zero Mile and The New ISBT.
NCC began groundwork for Patna Metro Phase 1 in November 2020, followed by piling for construction in December 2020.
As per current progress, it is expected that the Patna Metro Rail project will be completed by Year 2025.
