What is V Funnel Test ?

• This test was created in Japan. The apparatus consists of the V-shaped funnel depicted above.

• The V-Funnel test is used to measure the concrete’s filling ability (flowability) with a maximum aggregate size of 20 mm.

• There are around 12 liters of concrete in the funnel. Calculate how long it took for it to flow down.

• After that, fill the funnel with concrete and set it aside for 5 minutes to settle.

• If the concrete segregates, the flow time will dramatically rise.

Procedure of V Funnel Test

• For the V-Funnel Test, approximately 12 liters of concrete are required.

• Place the V-funnel on a level surface.

• Moisten the funnel’s interior.

• Leave the trap door open to let any excess water out.

• Place a bucket beneath the trap door and close it.

• Pour concrete into the device thoroughly.

• Tamping or compaction is done.

• Take a swing at the concrete level.

• Open the trap door in 10 seconds and time how long it takes the concrete to flow down.

• Keep track of the time it takes to empty the trash.

• This can be determined by looking at the light from the top.

Procedure for V-funnel flow time at T5 mm

• The entire test must be completed in under 5 minute

• Do not clean or damp the interior surface of the funnel for V-funnel flow duration at T5 mm.

• After monitoring the flow time, quickly close the trap door and refill the V-funnel.

• Place the bucket on the floor.

• Without tamping or tapping, thoroughly fill the apparatus with concrete.

• Using a trowel, level the concrete at the top.

• Allow the concrete to flow by opening the trap door 5 minutes after the second fill of the funnel.

• Determine how long it takes for the entire discharge to be completed.

• It’s referred to as the flow time at T5 min.

• The flow time for the V-funnel test should be between 8 and 12 seconds.

• T5 min. + 3 seconds is allowed for V-funnel flow time.
