Brief about Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway :-

Friends, Central Government of India has made a massive plan viz. Bharatmala Pariyojana to construct world-class expressways and highways. With the Network of these high-standard expressways, not only the existing traffic congestion problem will get relief but this will also significantly reduce the travel time between the cities, Increase transportation activities which will ultimately boost the development of the nation.

Today, some of the projects under this project are operational and some projects like Ambala Kotputli Expressway, Amritsar Jamnagar Expressway, Bengaluru Chennai Expressway, Raipur Visakhapatnam Expressway etc are still under construction phase. In the same series, Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway is also under construction.

Varanasi Kolkata Expressway is also known as Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway. This project is being implemented under the flagship program of Indian Government i.e. Bharatmala Pariyojana under which thousands of kilometers of Expressways, Highways, Economic Corridors, Roads etc are to be constructed in order to boost the Indian Economy.

Varanasi Kolkata Expressway will certainly boost the industrial development in the nearby areas, Jobs creation, smooth and seamless travel. Along with this, the expressway will also be helpful in solving the logistics problems.

Details about Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway Project

The expressway is being developed as a 6 lane greenfield expressway project with an entirely fresh alignment. According to certain reports, there is an provision of extension of lanes in future. The Right of Way of the expressway will be kept to 100 m throughout the stretch. Acc. to the reports, there will be construction of a 5 km tunnel in the Kaimur District of Bihar. Varanasi Kolkata expressway is being constructed under engineering procurement and construction (EPC) mode.

For the construction of this expressway a total of 1340 Hectares of Land is being Acquired.

Currently the maritime trade activities of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand & West Bengal are being carried out at Kolkata & Haldia port and after successful construction of Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata expressway, the connectivity of Eastern UP, Bihar & Jharkhand to the Kolkata & Haldia port will certainly become better and much faster which will ultimately boost the industrial growth of these states.

Route Alignment of Kolkata Varanasi Expressway

Throughout its stretch, the expressway will cover 4 states viz. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand & West Bengal.

The expressway will start from Varanasi ring road in Barhuli Village near Chandauli District, Uttar Pradesh. Moving ahead, the expressway will cross Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurandabad, Gaya in Bihar, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Peterbar,  Bokaro (which is near Ranchi) in Jharkhand, Purulia, Bankura, Arambag & will end at NH 16 in Uluberia near Howrah (which is close to Kolkata) in West Bengal.

Overall length of Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway will be approximately 610 Kms. The expressway will cover 22 Kms in Uttar Pradesh, approx 159 Kms in Bihar, approx 187 Kms in Jharkhand & approx 242 Kms in West Bengal. The majority part i.e. 242 Kms of the expressway will be constructed in West Bengal.

Benefits of Varanasi Kolkata Expressway

Currently, the distance from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to Kolkata, West Bengal on National Highway no. 19 is approx 690 Kms and it takes around 12 to 14 hours to cover this distance. After successful completion of Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata expressway, the overall distance will be reduced & with the facility of world class expressway which can handle high speed of vehicles, the travel time which is currently 12-13 hours will be reduced to just 6 to 7 hours. In other words, we can say the travel time will almost cut to half & because of which there will be a huge saving of time and fuel.

Due to the better and fast connectivity of the regions falling under the alignment of the expressway. Certainly, the opportunities of socio and economical development of the surrounding areas will get a strong push.

Current Status & Tender Details of Varanasi Kolkata Express Highway

Tentatively, the expressway has been divided into 5 sections.

Section 1 starts from Barhuli near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and ends at Rampur in Buxar District, Bihar. Length of this section is approx 74 Kms

Section 2 starts from Rampur in Buxar District, Bihar and ends at Tetarhar village. Length of this section is approx 40 Kms.

Section 3 starts from Tetrahar village, Bihar and ends at Shahpur in Gaya District, Bihar. Length of this section is approx 70 Kms.

Section 4 starts from Shahpur in Gaya District Bihar and ends at Kamalpur. Length of this section is approx 191 Kms.

Section 5 starts from Kamalpur and ends at Uluberia near Howrah, West Bengal. Length of this section is approximately 237 Kms.

Cost & Expected Date of Completion of Varanasi Kolkata Expressway Project

According to the reports, the civil construction cost of the 610 km 6 lane expressway will be approx INR 25,000 Crores and along with this additional cost of Rs 10,000 crore will be spent for the Land Acquisition work. So, the overall construction cost of Varanasi Kolkata Expressway would be somewhere around INR 35,000 Crore.

Since the work of Land Acquisition is still pending and is under progress, according to current status it is expected that the construction work of Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway (which can be initiated only after the land acquisition work) is expected to be completed & become operational by year 2026.
