Adani Ports and SEZ owns 100% of the Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL). The Government of Odisha has granted DPCL a concession to build and operate a port on a BOOST (Build, Own, Operate, Share, and Transfer) basis for a total of 34 years, including a four-year construction period, in the Bhadrak district north of the mouth of the Dhamra river.

Dhamra is a deep draft port in India that can accommodate super cape-size vessels and is an all-weather, multi-user, multi-cargo port that aims to become the largest and most efficient port on the east coast of India. Located between Haldia and Paradeep and close to the mineral belt of Orissa, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, Dhamra Port offers efficient hinterland connectivity.

Dhamra Airport

The Dhamra Airport is a proposed airport to be built by the Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL), a subsidiary of the Adani Group, approximately 20 km from the Dhamra Port in the Bhadrak district of Odisha, India. In 2018, DPCL submitted a proposal to the Odisha government to establish an airport in order to increase commercial activity near the Dhamra port.

The Odisha government gave in-principle approval in September 2018 and requested a detailed project report. In November 2018, the state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DPCL to develop a commercial airport on 500 acres at a cost of INR 500 crore. In January 2020, the government approved DPCL’s proposal to acquire 274 acres of land for the airstrip.

The 660-acre project includes an IT/ITeS Special Economic Zone (SEZ), an Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) for the Electronic System Design and Manufacturing sector, and a business park for corporate offices. The IT/ITeS SEZ, spread over 262 acres, has attracted interest from major companies such as Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Accenture, with Infosys serving as the anchor tenant.

The EMC, being co-developed with US firm M2I and Taiwan’s Wistron Corporation, is expected to bring in INR 957 crore of investment and create 10,000-12,000 jobs once completed. Coastal Highway, Odisha

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to build a premium coastal highway along the eastern coast of India. Currently NHAI has floated tenders for the construction on two packages on this highway: Package 1 covers the stretch from Rameswar to Puri (47 km), while Package 2 covers the stretch from Puri to Kakatpur (45 km).

The coastal highway was initially proposed to run from Gopalpur in Ganjam to Digha in West Bengal, but the alignment was changed due to environmental concerns. The Tangi-Ratanpur stretch, which is approximately 177 km in length, will pass through major towns and cities such as Puri, Konark, Astarang, Naugaon, and Paradip port. It will also provide connectivity to around 100 villages in the districts of Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapada.
