Nagapattinam Tuticorin Highway Project

At an estimated cost of Rs 7000 crores, the 332 km East Coast Road (ECR) between Nagapattinam and Thoothukudi (formerly Tuticorin) is about to be expanded to four lanes. Six coastal districts are anticipated to gain from the Highway, which would also provide Chennai with an alternative route along the east coast corridor.

Between the two districts, the proposed highway would run for 332 km and traverse via Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, and Thoothukudi, respectively.

The portion of NH 32 between Nagapattinam and Thoothukudi would be improved from a two-lane to a four-way road as part of the proposed project. based on the Bharatmala Phase I plan.

Project implementation would soon get underway. The consultant has submitted the DPR (detailed project report) in October 2022.

According to the Detail Project Report (DPR) for the Nagapattinam-Thoothukudi National Highway, the project will involve building 669 new box culverts, 22 major bridges, 45 light vehicular underpasses, 11 major bridges over ponds, and 47 small vehicular underpasses (SVUPs).

Additionally, it comprises the widening of six minor bridges and 49 main bridges.

Chennai Metro Phase 2 Project

In the coming years, the 118.9-km long Phase II project of the Chennai Metro Railway is anticipated to add another 93 km, with the goal of its extension up to Parandur, where a brand new greenfield airport has been proposed.

Three corridors have been planned for the 61,843 crore Phase II project: Corridor 3, which covers the 45.8 km between Madhavaram-Siruseri line, Corridor 4, which covers the 26.1 km between Lighthouse and Poonamallee, & Corridor no. 5, which runs from Madhavaram up to Sholinganallur (47.0 kilometers).

The Corridor 4 will be expanded to Parandur (50 km), the Corridor 5 to Avadi through Thirumangalam and Mogappair (17 km), and the Corridor 3 from Siruseri to Kilambakkam Bus Terminus via Kelambakkam (26 km).

To conduct a thorough feasibility study for these extensions and prepare a report with recommendations, a consultant will shortly be hired.

Chennai Second Airport Project

A greenfield airport project called the New Chennai Greenfield International Airport is being considered to serve the people of Chennai, India.  It would be constructed close to Parandur in the Tamil Nadu state of India’s Kanchipuram district. Alongside Chennai International Airport, it will operate. Around 5,000 acres will be devoted to the projected airport.

Due to the airport’s own specialized cargo terminal, trade between Chennai and surrounding regions will rise, accelerating the state’s overall economic development.

4,970 acres of land will be used to construct the airport. It takes about 1 hour 50 minutes to drive the approximately 70 kilometres (57 mi) from the existing airport in Chennai to Parandur.

Chennai Egmore Railway Station Redevelopment Project

The 114-year-old Egmore Railway, one of Chennai’s most charming structures, is poised to undergo renovation soon after Southern Railway selected Hyderabad-based DEC Infrastructure and Projects to carry out the project under an EPC (engineering procurement contract) basis.

As part of the PM Gati Shakti-National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity, which intends to modernize significant railway stations to world standards, the station is currently undergoing redevelopment.

The estimated cost of the renovation of Chennai Egmore Station is Rs. 734 crore, with a 36-month completion window.

Chennai Egmore is a Gothic-styled building with majestic domes and corridors that was constructed in 1906–1908 to serve as the South Indian Railway Company’s terminus. It is still regarded as one of Chennai’s most recognizable monuments.

The station serves over 2 lakh people daily and about 35 main line trains and 240 suburban trains.

Surat Chennai Expressway

The 1,271 km Surat-Chennai Expressway, which will connect Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, will cost Rs 14,000 crore. The expressway’s path goes through Tirupati, Kadapa, Kurnool, Kurburgi, Ahmednagar, Nasik, and Ahmednagar.

The project is intended to combine two economic corridors with controlled access (Chennai-Solapur and Solapur-Surat). It will involve redeveloping brownfield areas and constructing new greenfield stretches.

Chennai Peripheral Ring Road

133.38 km Chennai Peripheral Ring Road project (CPRR) by TNRDC is currently an under construction 6 lane fully access-controlled expressway project with a route alignment in Tamil Nadu connecting the Ennore Port and Mahabalipuram.

This brand-new, five-section greenfield expressway will serve as Chennai’s fourth ring road. At an estimated cost of Rs. 12,301 crore, it will link the towns of Singaperumalkoil, Sriperumbudur, Tiruvallur, Tamaraipakkam, Periyapalayam, Puduvoyal, and Kattupalli.

The expressway would be connected to the NHAI’s Chittoor-Thatchur Expressway and Bangalore Chennai Expressway projects, all of which have completion dates of 2025.

Chennai Sea Bridge Project

Similar to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Chennai may soon get its own maritime connection. A feasibility study for the 8-km bridge is being prepared to relieve congestion at the Chennai Port.

The maritime link between Chennai Port and Manali Road – Thiruvottiyur Junction, which is a component of the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti Program, is gradually taking shape as the preliminary report has been presented.

The project comprises an elevated 7.60 km four-lane road from the port entrance to the next junction at Eranavur in order to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Chennai Financial Tech City

The government of Tamil Nadu will build Chennai’s Fintech City in two stages in Nandambakkam and Kavanur. At Nandambakkam, the first phase would be built for an estimated Rs. 165 crore.

The goal of Chennai Metro’s transit-oriented development is to construct Chennai Finance City, also known as Tamil Nadu Commerce Hub, as an infrastructure project to house public-private financial institutions, start-up parks, and other facilities (TOD).

Chennai Bengaluru Expressway

The Bangalore-Chennai Expressway, also known as National Expressway 7 is an under construction mega infra project that will connects Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, and Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, across a distance of 258 kilometers.

This will be first expressway in entire South India.

It will travel from Hosakote in the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority to Sriperumbudur in the Chennai Metropolitan Area. South India’s first expressway. Vehicles will be able to run with up to 120 km/h (75 mph) on this expressway.

Around 18,000 crores is the estimated overall project cost.

Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor

The Government of India is planning to build a massive infrastructure project called the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor.

The corridor is expected to be built along the cities of Chennai, Sriperumbudur, Ponnapanthangal, Ranipet, and the suburbs of Vellore, Chittoor, Bangarupalem, Palamaner, Bangarpet, Hoskote, and Bangalore.

By enabling quicker transit of commodities from these locations to the Chennai and Ennore ports, it is anticipated to increase trade between south India and east Asia. More recently, it has been scheduled to be extended to Coimbatore, a city in Tamil Nadu, and Kochi, a city in Kerala.

A domestic airport in Hosur, less than 40 km from Bengaluru, will also be helpful for the city’s southern citizens, who now have to drive a significant distance to get to the Kempegowda International Airport, which is situated on the other side of the Bengaluru.

Bengaluru-Hosur Interstate Metro

The Namma Metro Phase 2 project’s RV Road – Bommasandra line extension to Hosur city has received approval from the Karnataka government.

Mega Sports City, Chennai

On the outskirts of the Chennai city, a 500-acre, Rs. 700-crore mega sports city is planned with elite amenities including the best athletic tracks, an indoor cycling velodrome, a hockey stadium, and an all-purpose indoor arena for basketball, volleyball, and boxing.
On East Coast Road, the project is being built close to Thiruvidanthai, roughly 30 kilometers south of Chennai (ECR).

Chittoor – Thatchur Expressway

The NHAI-approved 6 lane, access-controlled Chittoor-Thatchur Expressway (NH-716B), which spans 116.1 km, connects Keenatampalli, a town close to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, with Thatchoor, a town close to Ponneri and Ennore (Tamil Nadu).

This brand-new greenfield expressway would connect the 133 km Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR project) at Kannigaipair with the 262 km Bangalore-Chennai Expressway at Chittoor (KM 152).

The expected cost of the project is around INR 3,197 Crores.
