The 1,257 km long, 4/6-lane wide Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway (NH-754) is currently under development in the north-west of India. By adding the Kapurthala-Amritsar stretch, the highway will cut the distance and travel time between Amritsar and Jamnagar from 1,430 km to 1,316 km, and from 26 hours to under 13 hours. It is a part of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor and Bharatmala (EC-3). Four states—Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat—will be traversed.

Ludhiana Halwara International Airport

In the Punjabi city of Ludhiana, close to Halwara, is being built the international airport known as Ludhiana International Airport. After Amritsar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Airport, it would be the third international airport in Punjab once it is finished. The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has purchased 161.27 acres of land near Halwara for the construction of a Ludhiana international civil terminal. The site is 32 kilometres from Ludhiana City. The airport is being constructed to accommodate Airbus A-320 and Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Delhi Amritsar Katra Expressway

The 670 km (420 mi) long, 4-lane (extendable to 8 lanes), controlled-access Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is an under-construction mega project in Punjab. It will connect Delhi’s Bahadurgarh border with Katra in Jammu and Kashmir via Nakodar and Gurdaspur in Punjab. It will have a spur portion that will link Nakodar with Raja Sansi, Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport. National Expressway 5 (NE-5) spans 397.7 km (247.1 mi) from Delhi to Nakodar to Gurdaspur, while National Expressway 5A spans 99 km (62 mi) from Amritsar to Nakodar (NE-5A).

Once finished, it will lower the distance between Delhi and Katra from 727 km (452 mi) to 588 km (365 mi), cutting the travel time from 14 to 6 hours. It will also reduce the distance between Delhi and Amritsar from 8 to 4 hours and reduce the distance between the two cities from 727 to 452 kilometers.

There will be a trauma center there, as well as ambulances, fire trucks, traffic cops, bus bays, truck stops, and interchanges with rest areas. It will cost about 35,000 crores to build as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana.

Jalandhar Ring Road

The construction of a six-lane Jalandhar bypass has been put out to bid by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

As part of the North-South corridor decongestion in Punjab on hybrid annuity mechanism (HAM) under Bharatmala Pariyojana, the scope of work entails construction of a six-lane Jalandhar bypass commencing from Kahlwan (NH-03) (design length: 0.000 km) and finishing at Kang Sahbu (NH-703) (design length: 46.500 km).

The project will cost Rs 1,263.34 crore to complete.

Ludhiana Rupnagar Expressway

The 91 km Ludhiana Rupnagar Expressway (NH-205K), sanctioned by the NHAI, is a 4-6 lane, access-controlled expressway with a route alignment connecting Manewal village on the Delhi-Amritsar Expressway with Bheora village in Rupnagar (Ropar) in Punjab.

A 19.5 km spur runs from this greenfield highway to Kharar as part of Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase 1. The DPR (Detailed Project Report) and pre-feasibility report were produced by SA Infrastructure.

The Estimated cost of Ludhiana Rupnagar Expressway is INR 2,792 Cr.

Mohali Bypass

The Greenfield alignment road is finally being built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which should reduce traffic in Chandigarh and Mohali.

The 32-km road would provide an alternate route for travellers coming from Delhi in the direction of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir while also clearing Airport Road of traffic. It runs from IT Chowk near Chandigarh International Airport to the Kurali-Chandigarh Road.

The company Ashoka Buildcon Limited, which won the contract, has begun levelling ground in the villages of Rurki, Pukhta, Sahauran, and Nagiara.

The estimated cost of this project is INR 700 Cr.

The Amritsar Delhi Kolkata Industrial Corridor (ADKIC) is a planned industrial route in India that would connect the cities of Amritsar, Delhi, and Kolkata.

The project’s goal is to create an industrial zone that spans seven Indian states and 20 cities within each of these states. The initiative aims to significantly expand both industry and infrastructure in the states that make up the corridor’s route.

About 40% of India’s population lives within the corridor, which includes one of the world’s densest populations. This area requires a significant push towards industry and job growth.

Piyush Goyal, then minister of commerce and industry, has suggested creating a 5,749 crore for the first phase.

By utilizing the Inland Waterway System being established along National Waterway 1, which runs from Allahabad to Haldia, the corridor will be built along the 1,839 km long Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor between Khurja and Mugalsarai.

Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor

Eastern DFC, or broad gauge Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor in India, is currently being built. Through Ludhiana in Punjab, the railway will link Dankuni (near Kolkata) in West Bengal with Khurja in Uttar Pradesh. This railway route is being constructed as one of many freight corridors by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL), a public-sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways. The 365 km from Ludhiana to Khurja will only have one line of electrification due to space restrictions, even though the majority of the Eastern DFC will have dual tracks and be electrified.

The length of this freight corridor is 1,839 kilometers. Dadri (Gautam Buddha Nagar district) on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor and Khurja (Bulandshahr district) on the Eastern DFC are connected by a 46 km branch line that runs along this corridor (Western DFC).

As of June 2022, 923 km, or 50% of the Eastern DFC, had been completed, and 99% of the required land had been acquired. The Eastern DFC is projected to be completed in 2024.

On Hydel Channel, which is downstream from Shahpurkandi Dam, the power houses will be built. For this project, the water that the Ranjit Sagar Dam releases will be used to produce electricity. The project will produce up to 206MW of power and supply irrigation to Jammu & Kashmir (5,000 Ha) and Punjab (32,173 Ha). The dam is being built in accordance with the Indus Water Treaty’s guidelines for dividing rivers between India and Pakistan.

Amritsar Airport Expansion

The ministry has suggested spending 240 crore to enlarge the integrated passenger terminal structure. The capacity, which is currently 2.5 million people annually, will rise to 5.5 million passengers annually.

Around INR ₹60 crore has already been allocated for the development of apron, parking stands and upgradation of another terminal building.

The airport also notes that 20 additional flights per week have been added in the previous two years to Birmingham, Sharjah, Stansted, Abu Dhabi, and Toronto.

Pathankot Ajmer Expressway

The NHAI is building a 6-lane (extendable to 8-lanes) access-controlled express national highway that will connect Pathankot via Ludhiana to Bhatinda and Ajmer. The road was formerly known as the Pathankot-Ajmer Expressway and consists of 2 separate projects, the Ludhiana-Bhatinda Expressway and the Bhatinda-Ajmer Expressway. Ajmer will make it easier for commodities to go from northern states to ports along the western coast, like Kandla port.

The Pathankot-Ludhiana Expressway (now part of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway), the Ludhiana-Bhatinda Expressway, and the Bhatinda-Ajmer Expressway were all redesigned for the “Ludhiana-Ajmer Economic Corridor (EC-8)” expressway.

A 1,670 km long natural gas trunk pipeline will be built by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (GSPCL) and its subsidiary Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. (GSPL) from Mehsana in Gujarat to Bhatinda in Punjab via Jaipur in Rajasthan. The proposed project is expected to cost about INR 3,500 billion, plus another INR 1,000 billion to extend the pipeline from Bhatinda to Srinagar across a 747-kilometer route.

In addition to helping to build the city gas distribution (CGD) network and the compressed natural gas (CNG) corridor in areas along the pipeline’s route, the pipeline is being planned to breathe new life into industries and underdeveloped regions of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.

Through Gujarat’s current and prospective GSPL network, the proposed pipeline is anticipated to ensure gas connectivity to the states with significant gas resources, supplying gas to cement factories, textile mills, chemical units, fertiliser units, and other facilities.

  1. A new express road link is urgently required starting from Laduwal bypass Ludhiana -to-Anandpur sahib that may pass in between RAHON and NAWANSHAHR cities. This will tremendously reduce the distance and traffic in this area , also will be a new and short link between two states Himachal and Punjab .It will further be a short link between religious destinations like Nanadevi Mandarin and Takhat Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo.
