The West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) recently declared their intention to deploy the trolley bus system as a mode of transportation in Kolkata along the city’s closed tram routes.

If you’re wondering what a trolley bus system is, it’s almost the same as the Neo-metro concept being developed at the moment in Nashik, Maharashtra. This bus has rubber tyres, overhead cables for charging, and presumably an electric battery to power it. This technique is already in use over the globe, particularly in European countries like Switzerland and Turkey.

If you dont know yet, Kolkata is still the only city in India with a working tram system, despite the fact that most of them have been shut down or will be soon due to poor upkeep, outdated machinery, and high running costs.

In order to benefit from the Amritsar-Dankuni freight corridor, which intends to increase trade and commerce between the eastern and northern portions of the country, the Mamata Banerjee administration will establish three dedicated industrial corridors in Bengal.

To increase industrial activity in the state, three specifically designated industrial corridors—Dankuni-Haldia, Dankuni-Kalyani, and Dankuni-Raghunathpur—will be built. West Bengal is presently concentrating on industrialization and job growth after establishing social protection programmes.

However, the pandemic caused a delay in the project. By the second half of 2022, the freight route is anticipated to be operational.

Dankuni will start serving as one of the state’s main land ports once the work on the freight route is finished. Due to a lack of land in and around Dankuni for the establishment of large companies, connecting land-rich locations with specialised corridors will undoubtedly aid in attracting investment.
