Tajpur Sea Port
In Tajpur, West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, a new greenfield deep-sea port called Tajpur Port project is being proposed. The port will be constructed close to Tajpur on the Bay of Bengal coast. In September 2022, the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited was given the contract to build the port. It will be West Bengal’s first deep-sea port once the port is completed. The port’s construction is expected to cost approx INR 25,000 crores, according to estimates.

According to a statement by the state administration, the port’s net draft with tidal support would be approximately 16 metres, allowing Cape-sized ships with DWTs of 100,000 tonnes to reach the planned port.
According to estimates, the port’s construction will cost INR 25,000 crores. The port will receive a INR15,000 crore investment. 10,000 crore more will be required for infrastructural development, which will be overseen by the respective ports. More than one lakh employment will be created indirectly, and roughly 25 thousand jobs will be created directly.
Kolkata Siliguri Expressway
Kolkata Siliguri Expressway is another mega project that is currently under construction the West Bengal.
To finish the project, the central government would invest Rs 25,000 crore.
The four-laned highway corridor will be 675 kilometers long, as opposed to the current route’s odd 560 kilometers.
Currently, it takes between 15 and 18 hours to drive from Kolkata to Siliguri; on rare occasions, the distance is considerably more.
The time required to drive from Siliguri to Kolkata would be reduced by half, to roughly seven hours, thanks to the new expressway.

Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway
The development of the 6-lane Kolkata Ranchi Varanasi expressway is a greenfield project with a completely new alignment. There is a possibility of future lane extensions, according to certain publications. The expressway’s right-of-way will only extend 100 metres along the entire span.
The Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway will be about 610 kilometres long overall.
The estimated cost of this expressway’s civil construction is INR 25,000 crore, while an additional INR 10,000 crore will be needed for land acquisition. Therefore, the Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway’s total construction cost would be approximately INR 35,000 crore.
Raxaul Haldia Port Expressway
The Haldia-Raxaul Highway is a 650 km (400 km) planned upcoming green field access controlled expressway in West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar. Raxaul will be connected to Haldia port.
The majority of Nepal’s trade is currently handled by Haldia port, although there is no established route connecting Haldia port to the Nepal-India border. It is proposed to build the Haldia-Raxaul Expressway in order to improve highway connections.

Kolkata Metro Expansion

Tajpur Purulia Industrial Corridor
A 500-kilometer industrial corridor is being built by West Bengal from Purulia to the future port city of Tajpur.
