Delhi Amritsar Katra Highway Project Brief

The NHAI’s 669-kilometer Delhi Amritsar Katra (DAK) expressway project (NE-5 & NE-5A) which is under Bharatmala Pariyojana connects Jasaur Kheri, Jhajjar District near Delhi, with Katra, north of Jammu city.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this brownfield and greenfield Delhi Amritsar Katra Expressway project was completed in year 2019. Despite the fact that bidding process is underway, this mega expressway project is now being hampered by land acquisition issues in Punjab State, where the farmers and land owners are demanding higher compensation for their farmland.

The first phase entails the construction of a 397.7-kilometer greenfield expressway connecting Delhi, Ludhiana, and Gurdaspur, as well as a 99-kilometer branch or Spur expressway route connecting Nakodar and Amritsar. It has been divided into 15 construction tenders / sections with a two-year deadline.
